Universal is putting out the feature, currently shooting in South Africa, as part of its DVD Originals banner, a line of originals made for home entertainment. “Smokin’ Aces 2: Assassins’ Ball” was the most recent release.

Also in the cast are Lauren Cohan, Ving Rhames, Danny Trejo, and Frederick Koehler. Paul W.S. Anderson, who directed the 2008 movie, is producing with Jeremy Bolt. Roel Reine is directing.

The prequel is serving as the origin story for the character named Frankenstein, a convicted cop killer (Goss) in a declining American Empire where a racing reality show is about to be born in the country’s corrupt prison system.

CAA-repped Bean, seen on screens as Zeus in “Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief,” is starring in the pilot “A Game of Thrones,” which is awaiting a series pickup order from HBO.

Synopsis;
DEATH RACE 2 takes place in the very near future, as the United States economy begins to decline and violent crime starts to spiral out of control. To contain the growing criminal population, a vast network of for-profit, private prisons springs up, creating a lawless subculture ruled by gangs, cold-blooded killers and sociopaths. The worst of these prisons is Terminal Island. Convicted cop-killer Carl Lucas arrives on the Island to serve his life sentence just as ruthlessly ambitious television personality September Jones launches the ultimate reality show, Death Race. A brutal prison yard demolition derby that pits prisoners against each other in steel reinforced, heavily armed vehicles, Death Race offers the winner the ultimate prize: freedom — if he can survive to enjoy it. When Lucas signs up to be a driver, the stage is set for the birth of a legendary racer.

The new movie is said to delve into the past of the mangled driver known as Frankenstein, who was originally played by the late David Carradine in the 1975 film “Death Race 2000″ and voiced by Carradine in Anderson’s recent “Death Race.”

Moviehole has learned that Luke Goss (Hellboy II: The Golden Army) will star as Frankenstein in this prequel called “Death Race: Frankenstein Lives.” Goss will play Carl “Luke” Lucas (aka Frankenstein), who has been framed by the mob for the murder of a police officer. Once relocated to Terminal Island, he is roped into entering the famed race to stay alive.

“Frankenstein Lives” is directed by Roel Reine (The Marine 2), who will begin filming in Eastern Europe next month.

I finally got home after working crazy hard at the gym for my new movie….Oh, I still didn’t mention what movie did I? running around like all of us at this time of year, cooked (i think the best steak in my part of town) made a bad ass martini, (filthy) of course!!
I wanted to tell you all something……I have been in this business in one shape or another for 20 years (yikes I sound like an old Ba@!#$$#) and the support I have seen in the last few years with the help of my dear friend Jeri, is so giving and supportive I needed to tell you. I have never felt such love and kindness than I do at this point in my career. You are wonderful and truly make this boy feel blessed for having your energy in my life.
I wish every one of you a beautiful Christmas and Holiday time where you can all get ready for the amazing Blessed, Healthy and prosperous 2010!!! 2009 was a testing year, but I was told that in the Mayan calendar, this was the year of the storm and hard for all. This year is the year of the Seed, and if you plant them you WILL flourish in 2010. I don’t know how much you believe in this stuff, but what I do know is when there is information like this, it is something to feel positive about, that is half the battle. So, that said, i wish that your year ahead is TRULY blessed. I am so grateful to have you all as a part of my journey and want to wish you all
HAPPY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!

lets talk on New Years day with communal hangovers!!
SO MUCH LOVE

Luke Goss is starring in tonight’s SyFy original movie Annihilation Earth as David Wyndham, a brilliant physicist who has to decide whether or not the destruction from a super collider facility was the work of terrorists or his own miscalculation. Heavy burden, no doubt, but not near as tough as it was working on the production according to the actor.

You’d think that Annihilation Earth would be heavy on the computer imagery, but not so says Goss. The flick was shot on location in Bulgaria and despite the beautiful scenery, Goss says he was forced to suffer for his art…literally in a quarry without a breeze to be had.

Still, the finished product is what counts and Goss is completely smitten with the end result. In fact, he claims that the ending alone was the capper that got him to say yes to the movie.

Click onto the three media bars for comments from Luke Goss on the production rigors, the show-stopper ending and how he thinks the project turned out.

He stars in the original Syfy movie Annihilation Earth this Saturday night at 9 pm.

Al Norton: I have to be honest, I had a lot of fun looking at your resume; I don’t often talk to people who have done movies, TV, musical theater, had pop chart success and also written a book.

Luke Goss: (Laughing) I know, I just keep coming up with ideas. I have an idea and I find it really hard not to try and execute it.

Al Norton: What is your answer if someone asks you what you do for a living?

Luke Goss: It depends on geography, I guess, and the time you ask me (laughing). It all has to do with time and place. I have to be honest with you, of all the things I’ve done in my life, acting is without a doubt the passion of my life. You have to find a home, I guess, and all that stuff was a pursuit of something that makes you get up in the morning. It’s intimidating and it stays intimidating.

With music and writing you’re kind of your own boss in that way but with film it’s kind of scary sometimes. You think, “shit, I’ve got to pull this one out of the bag again.”

Al Norton: How old were you when you decided acting was the thing you wanted to do most?

Luke Goss: I left my band when I was 23 and so I guess I was about 25. I’d been asked to do this show by a theater director in London. I asked her why she wanted me to do it and she had her answers and it wasn’t just to do with box office and putting bums into seats, because at that point I was pretty well known in that country. She told me she just thought I was right for the role, which was a musical adaptation of Ed Wood’s Plan 9 From Outer Space, which was really funny as an adult kind of spoof thing.

I pulled it off but more importantly I had such great support from my cast at that time. Playing the lead role in a show was my debut and there was so much civility and so much camaraderie, like anything to do with acting, it was such a team play. If you’re the lead in a movie or a play you’re not the full center of attention, you’re just one on many links. That really appealed to me, as opposed to music where you’re the catalyst and everyone is just sitting around waiting and watching you.

Al Norton: The reason I ask is because I wonder what your reaction would have been as a 25 year old if someone had told you in 2009 you’d be getting a strong reputation in science fiction and action movies.

Luke Goss: I’d have had no bloody clue. Absolutely none. I feel really lucky because the reinvention of anything or anyone in this business is tough anyway, and I’m still in awe of it all. I’m still working hard because I’m still not exactly where I want to be.

In the UK there is a different mindset to evolution in the entertainment business; sure, there are a lot of ceilings, but what I learned quite young is that you can tap your finger and that ceiling is really just an eggshell. People buy into it like it’s a major obstacle. In the UK there is more encouragement to try new things, to doing more.

Al Norton: Were you a big science-fiction guy growing up?

Luke Goss: Sure. 2010, Close Encounters, all those films made me think; I was always like, “shit, what is all this really about?” As far as graphic novels, I was baptized by Guillermo del Toro. Once it gets under your skin you become, well, I say “stylish geek” to cut myself some slack but in reality I am just a bloody geek.

I love genre, I love the fantasy, I love graphic novels. Even the action figures now; when you get a couple from your characters, that doesn’t hurt at all.

Al Norton: Tell me about Annihilation Earth.

Luke Goss: It’s pretty cool actually. I really like the story when I read it. At that time I was really freaking out about the colliders and all of the experiments over in Europe. I was thinking, “bloody hell, I don’t want to get eaten up by a monstrous black hole if they get it wrong.” The story was topical and that’s when Syfy approached about doing the project.

Nick Lyon is a cool director and was known more for independent film and we sat down and talked in Europe and we decided to try and making something that was feature film quality. Syfy has been very supportive throughout. The effects are good and the story is driven by the story, it’s not just bells and whistles. I was really affected by the end of it. The ending of it, which I can’t say, was why I did it. I wouldn’t have expected it, especially for TV, and I wouldn’t have done it if it were a different ending.

Al Norton: At this point are you pretty relaxed in front of a green screen?

Luke Goss: I’ve worked with things that are not there in terms of a three dimensional aspect and I’ve done things where the background wasn’t there, either. That part is easier because when you’re acting you’re not depending on what’s behind you. The hard part is when you’re trying to pretend you’re holding something that you’re not really holding.

Theater is a good beginning for that. I’ve done about 1500 shows on stage and there you don’t have anything, you have to imagine it’s all there. At this point that stuff doesn’t affect me at all. I mean, when you walk on to a del Toro set, that’s different because that’s like being a kid with toys, sweets, and chocolate fountains.

Working now, if you don’t know how to work with those green screen elements, one should probably learn quickly because it’s inevitable.

Al Norton: I would think it makes watching the finished product more fun because you are literally seeing it for the first time.

Luke Goss: Exactly. Sometimes with movies of certain budgets you think you’ll be able to see all of what you’re pretending, and other times you don’t really know what they will come up with. I think they did a great job with Annihilation Earth; I bought it, I believed it.

Al Norton: What’s going on with Tekken? Is there a release date? Is it going straight to DVD?

Luke Goss: I heard a rumor about straight to DVD and I know for a fact that someone’s misleading someone. It’s definitely going to be a theatrical release. It was always made for theaters and was not made in any way, shape, or form for the DVD market. I mean, of course it will come out on DVD after the theaters.

It’s cool. The one thing about Tekken is that the story is truly funded by the game. Mortal Combat and Tekken are the two granddaddies of those games. I saw Street Fighter last year and I’ve got to be honest with you, it was a pile of pants. It was terrible. What did that have to do with the game? With Tekken they said, “we’ve got to incorporate the game into a feature film”, not just watching some UFC dudes kicking the crap out of each other for two hours. It’s more leaning towards the sensibilities of Blade Runner, that kind of color. It’s got a lot more in common with Blade Runner than it does with one of the non-masterpieces of film history, DOA, which was just bloody terrifying in how bad it was.

I think the fans will be happy. I watched a screening of it and it’s cool as shit.

Al Norton: What’s your training regimen like to stay in this kind of shape?

Luke Goss: Oh dear. The hardest thing is I can’t eat In-And-Out Burgers much. I’m really miserable about that. I love fast food. Growing up as a kid on the road, both with the band and then with the shows, fast food becomes a really good friend.

I train every day. I go through stages depending on what I am working on but I do it no matter what to stop myself from getting fat and that way when I do have to step it up I can. I’ve got a movie I’m doing soon where I am going to have to get in ridiculous shape. Magdalena next year I am going to have to be in outrageous shape. It’s two training sessions a day, very low carbs, low fat, a lot of meat, craploads of vegetables, and unbelievable amounts of water. I probably do about three hours of training a day. When I was doing Hellboy it was five hours a day. I got an eight-pack on that set. Some people think I am a martial artist but I’m not, I just hate being doubled. When I do roles I always make sure I get time to train written into the contract so I can do it.

Al Norton: Wouldn’t you consider yourself a martial artist at this point?

Luke Goss: I guess if there was a belt out there for me it certainly wouldn’t be a white belt. 10 weeks for Blade, 5-6 hours a day. 9 weeks on Hellboy, and a few others. There is some movie belt out there for me, I’m sure (laughing). I’m a Hollywood Black Belt.

Al Norton: You got a couple of MTV Movie Award nominations for Hellboy 2.

Luke Goss: That was kind of cool. I moved into my house and had been there literally 15 minutes when I got this text message saying “congratulations on the nominations” and I was like, “what nominations?” I had no idea. Someone had seen it on MTV News or something and assumed I knew. I thought it was a bloody good way to move into a new house.

I liked it because it was totally voted for by the fans. At that point my insecurities took a bit of a hit; I realized I must have at least a couple of fans out there.

Al Norton: You think there is any way someone could come up with an action – musical?

Luke Goss: On film? If Baz Luhrmann were directing it, since he really knows what he’s doing, and it was massive and kind of kitsch, yeah, I could see that. That’s a bloody good idea. I was about to say “no” and then I realized I liked it. It would have to be like the very best six seconds of Sin City, but for the whole movie, and it would have to have Lincoln Park doing the music. If that’s the case, I’m in.

Don’t miss Annihilation Earth, Saturday at 9 pm on Syfy

Dec 10th, 2009 Source

Luke Goss has one of the more enviable film careers going, particularly in the eyes of those who are keen on epic sci fi and supernatural pageantry. Roles in blockbusters like ‘Hellboy II‘ and ‘Blade II‘ have certainly heightened his genre cred and profile (despite the FX makeup being applied pretty thickly for roles like Prince Nuada and Nomak). With a role in the big screen adaptation of ‘Tekken’ looming large, and a handful of other projects underway, this in-demand actor was equally intrigued by the role of David in Syfy’s upcoming ‘Annihilation Earth.’ Goss talked to Fancast about this particularly daunting disaster movie (meteors, quakes and terrorists? Hello!), which airs this Saturday on Syfy. He also reveals why auditioning for the great del Toro was not exactly hell on earth, and which big-screen action heroes fueled his own ambition to act.

What is the greatest challenge facing your character? Or, in a movie called ‘Annihilation Earth,’ is it pretty obvious?

Well, there’s two different challenges – one for the character and one for the actor, I guess. For me, it was all the technical jargon. At speed, with tension and stress. Somebody asked me yesterday if I now understood the concept of physics and I said, “Come on.” I’m a very committed actor, but…please don’t let my performance be dependent on my knowledge of the physics of the whole thing!”

Tell us about your character, David.

He and his partner have created technology that, as always, finds its way in the hands of people who are trying to empower themselves or their political viewpoint. He’s the kind of guy where he’s not a superhero, he’s not a badass, but he can take care of himself, I guess – just like anyone could. He finds himself slam dunked between [his] bosses and the terrorism side of things. The expression “the weight of the world on your shoulders” really does apply to him, but I think we avoided it being corny, or anything kind of hokey. My character’s challenge is to do the right thing. When I read the screenplay, I thought my character was going to go running off into the sunset with more muscles than he started with, designer dirt all over his face. And he didn’t. The last thing he does is lie to his son. The ending is why I wanted to do the movie.

What lesson did you walk away with after working on this project?

I think there’s a kind of arrogance with science. If there are risks to us as people of the earth, and if experiments create any risk whatsoever, then I think it’s outrageous and appalling. You want to work out how the Big Bang happened? I don’t think any of us are going to be having our brunch on a Sunday thinking, “Shit, this tastes so much better now that we know that!” Just slow down, guys, and make sure you’re not jeopardizing all of us.

You’re resume has some truly amazing line items on it – Blade II and Hellboy II, for starters. Can you comment on those roles?

Guillermo del Toro and I, for whatever reason, get on very well, and he’s an amazing filmmaker. I’m in awe of his talent and his spirit, how gifted and smart he is. For Blade, he was the first director I’d sat down with who – he doesn’t audition, he just wants to hear what the actor he’s already interested in has to say about the role. We sat down for an hour, and he asked the casting director to wait outside while we talked. He said, “I think you’re going to be great for this,” and I said, “What does that mean?!” I hadn’t encountered that kind of composure and civility and calmness in regards to a role before. With Hellboy, I was having some food at Sunset Plaza, and I get a call from del Toro, and he says, “Hey mother___er!” I said, “I know exactly who this is!” He asked if I liked the screenplay, and I said, “I’m stoked! I love it!” He said, “I guess I’ll see you in Budapest then?” That was our negotiation. That was it.

And Fringe – what compelled you to materialize there?

I got a call from someone I’m a massive fan of – Akiva Goldsman. He called and said, “How do I get you on the show – the season premiere?” I said, “It’s you and J.J.! I’m a crazy huge fan of yours. You could poke me in the eye and I’m still gonna be there!” It was a good experience.

What inspired you to become an actor? Were there any movies or shows that grabbed you and made you think, “I have to do this”?

It was more about the actors. I’m a massive Clint Eastwood fan. He’s a dude. As someone once said to me, he’s a guy that other guys want to be, and girls want to do. I get it. Also, Steve McQueen. He’d walk into a room and look around. They don’t say so much – [but] they’re so present and cinematic. Kirk Douglas – I remember watching ‘The Vikings’ with him and Tony Curtis. And ‘Spartacus.’ Absolute dude movies. There’s a strength there, a composure and nobility.

‘Annihilation Earth’ airs this Saturday, December 12 at 9/8 c on Syfy.

Luke Goss’ decision to star in this weekend’s Syfy original movie Annihilation Earth started and ended with the script’s final moments.

Goss, who’s developed a sizable following of genre fans thanks to his appearances in Unearthed, Blade II, Frankenstein, Fringe and the upcoming films Tekken and Magdalena, stars in Annihilation Earth as David Wyndham, a physicist whose work may have resulted in the destruction of France and might very well lead to the end of Earth as we know it. Only, he’s not sure whether he made a mistake or other, sinister forces have corrupted his work. Annihilation Earth will premiere on Saturday at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

“They sent me the screenplay and it was the ending that did it, really,” Goss said in an exclusive interview earlier this week. “That and a conversation with the director [Nick Lyon]. To be honest, I wanted to make sure this was a project we’d actually create, do right. I didn’t want it to be ‘Yeah, let’s phone this stuff in.’ The ending is what surprised me, because I thought everything would be all nice and tied up and that the character they asked me to play would be trying to be too heroic when he’s not. He’s a scientist. So I made sure not to hit the gym for this role, and I wanted things to be t-ts-up at the end, like it was written, without telling you exactly what happens, and they are. I didn’t think they do that on TV anymore. So there’s meaning to the story, and meaning to the ending.”

Since Goss was on the line, it only made sense to bring up Magdalena and Tekken. He confirmed that Magdalena, producer Gale Anne Hurd’s big-screen adaptation of the Top Cow comic book, looks likely to roll next year. As for the long-completed Tekken, based on the popular video game franchise, Goss—who plays a British boxer—insisted that despite rumors to the contrary it will open in U.S. theaters next year.

“You will see it in the States, for sure,” Goss said. “You will. There has been some speculation that it will be going DVD, but it will definitely be a theatrical release here. I saw it about a month ago at a private screening, and I have to be honest with you, it’s cool as hell. It’s really, really good. It’s been through a number of evolutions as far as cuts and composing and score, all the other stuff, and making sure the colors are as dark as they wanted. It’s R-rated. It’s cool. I’m really, really happy with it.
